Roof Checks & Cleaning

According to Lysaght, a leading Australian manufacturer of Colorbond and Zincalume roofing and rainwater products, maintenance of roofs and gutters “should be carried out at least every four months, preferably including the end of Spring and the end of Autumn”. While this is ideal, we are aware the cost to the owners can add up so we prefer to suggest that the frequency of a roof check and clean should depend on the building’s proximity to trees.

Why hire a roof plumber to look over the roof and carry out a clean?

Care needs to be taken not to damage the surface of the roof, gutters and flashings. Not all trades know how to walk on a roof without compounding existing problems or creating new ones.

Soft-soled shoes should be worn.

Footsteps should be across at least two ribs, as close to supports as possible.

Walking immediately adjacent to flashings in the pans should be avoided.

What does a metal roof maintenance visit entail?

Roofrite’s staff follows all relevant OH&S requirements when inspecting a roof. We then undertake a comprehensive check of the roof, guttering, flashings, penetrations and downpipes.

We are particularly checking for a build-up of debris or organic matter on the roof and in the gutters and downpipes.

When checking around flashings and penetrations, we look for a build-up of debris caught between the joins. Staining is a good indicator of this.

All debris is removed and any problems or potential problems are reported and can be quoted if required.

How much will it cost?

Unfortunately, this question is a bit like the “how long is a piece of string” question. Pricing is dependent upon a number of factors including access, height, size of the roof and the number of downpipes.
